1. Mmmm….this stuffed-crust pizza with hotdog slices looks particularly appealing.<img src="http://demandware.edgesuite.net/aahv_prd/on/demandware.static/-/Sites-catalog-picard/default/dw772014ba/categories/rayons/page_rayon_(landing)/2017_03_962x278_pizza_cheesy.jpg"> Unfortunately the French are culturally incapable of producing the kind of cardboard crust a culinary trainwreck like this demands. And be sure to order your bifteck Charolais medium-raw, like this one. <img src="http://demandware.edgesuite.net/sits_pod39/dw/image/v2/AAHV_PRD/on/demandware.static/-/Sites-catalog-picard/default/dwbd40a115/produits/viandes-volailles/edition/000000000000060793_E1.jpg?sw=600&sh=350">

    1. I'm really kind of amused/embarrassed that this is what the French think of American cuisine. It's like when you go into the Supermarket's international foods aisle, and the American offerings are Fluff, Strawberry Fluff, Skippy peanut butter and Heinz BBQ sauce. And they aren't trying to be mean–they have a fondness for American kitsch.

Picard is a grocery store chain, and the only thing they sell are frozen items. And the quality is actually typically pretty good. For instance, that T-Bone is Charolais beef. It is really excellent steak, probably frozen and packaged in the Parisian region, where those types of cows are raised. Meat tends to be far more local. Around here, the AOC beef is Limousine. It's very flavorful, very "beefy."

      1. Years ago I used to deliver mail in the stockyards area of Denver and saw offices for the American associations of breeders of all those cattle types. So I guess they're known far and wide. The bun on that hamburger is suspiciously tasty-looking too.

In Italy you can still go to authentic butcher shops (the guy serving you is wearing a blood-splattered white coat) and get tenderloins that are pretty good. The chain supermarket we frequent is called "Sma." It used to be called "Simply," but that was too complicated so they reduced it. Italians don't really understand acronyms, and misuse them in terrible ways.
