  1. DST is like cutting 6" of the bottom edge of your blanket and sewing it onto the top edge, thinking you'll be warmer.

    1. My preference would be to stay on DST year-round, but I'd be OK with Standard time, too. As long as we leave it the fuck alone!

  2. Patrons of bars that stay open past 2:00 a.m. lose one hour of drinking time on the day when Daylight Saving Time springs forward one hour. This has led to annual problems in numerous locations, and sometimes even to riots. For example, at a "time disturbance" in Athens, Ohio, site of Ohio University, over 1,000 students and other late night partiers chanted "Freedom," as they threw liquor bottles at the police attempting to control the riot.

So they stood up for their right to drink by throwing drinks to the cops. OK then…

  3. When I still had a jerb, I had to get up at 4:30 to be at work by 6:00. Even mid-summer, it was dark on my commute. I got off at 4:30, which was past sunset during the middle of winter. Got pretty depressing.

  4. But, overtime?

For a couple of years in my USPS Letter Carrier days, I started at 4:30 AM and got off at 1:00 or 1:30, which was nice except you had to go to bed at 8:30 PM every night.

  5. No, it was a 4/10 schedule. The "normal" work hours for everyone else in the district is 7:30 to 4:00. We got 4/10s due to distances traveled and short crew; we had to team up with the Furnace Creek crew in order to have enough bodies to get anything done.
