The Ruby-Throateds have been especially active here – I've got two feeders out and they suck them both dry in about a week and a half. Must be a good year for them because I'm seeing lots.
I never saw jack shit as far as miniature organic drones hummingbirds when I was in NJ, out here there are tons of them, my mom in NY state sees them all the time. Where's the love for NJ? My dad was an avid birder and even built a Purple Martin birdhouse.
I think it depends on where in NJ you are (it's a pretty geographically diverse state) and what kinds of plants are around. I grew up in Essex County and our next door neighbors had this elaborate flower garden that attracted lots of them. Used to freak me out as a little kid when they went zipping by ( I thought they were huge bees for a bit).
Edison and Perth Amboy! Do you remember the "Dutch Boy Paints" road sign with the Dutch Boy and his moving paint brush next to the Raritan River bridge or was that gone by then?
Route 287, and the Tingley Rubber Factory sign. What more do you want?
Ah, what people missed by not growing up in New Jersey!
Awww, little munchie bites!

Oh, BTW: Weird N.J. rocks.
rilly. NJ is more than the turnpike and Newark airport, thank FSM.
I recognize these town names! Of course my mom grew up in Woodbridge, but still.
This whole thing is whipping me into a live feeding frenzy!
You have to admit: That's one well-trained bee.
From playing on the porch, I know those hummers [ love their reggae ].
