    1. We know the GOPers are shameless. Let's hope the voters consider that disqualifying.

I've been thinking lately that, for most of my (long) life, Republicans and Democrats disagreed without accusing each other of treason. In other words, "We think the capital gains tax should be 15 percent. You think it should be 30 percent. Let's negotiate." Now on the Republican side, it's "You disagree with me so you hate America." It's been much worse since Obama got elected, although I'm sure racism has nothing to do with it.

      1. I feel like the whole "treason" shit actually started under Dubya's watch after 9/11. It was the whole, "either you're with us or you're against us" line of "reasoning." (Remember what happened to the Dixie Chicks?) Hell, one could argue it actually started in the 90s with the rise of talk radio and the war on the Clintons. In the 80s, we had Republican presidents and both houses were controlled by the Democrats. Certainly, a lot of stupid shit got passed then, but I don't think the Democrats ever came close to shutting down the federal government the way the Republicans did in the 90s.

Sadly, negotiating has gone by the wayside. We need some LBJ-style ball busting to get anything passed.

  1. Yeppers. And the 2010 election, the "Tea Party Wave," which gave many states control of their leg's after a census year and led to massive "redistricting" across the country. The 2010 election should go down as one of the most detrimental elections this country has ever seen.
