Wait a minute. If I trust the neighbor kid enough not to steal a pie I've set out on the windowsill to cool, but run over to the window every two minutes to verify that the pie is still there, doesn't that mean I don't trust the kid?
I guess that Reagan guy was smarter than I thought if he could explain why this isn't self-contradictory advice.
