Boards of education and school boards are always full of idiots and forever will be. They're the bottom rung on the political office ladder, so they attract bottom-feeders who would not ever be able to get elected to a political office with more general responsibility, more intelligent debaters or more visibility. People in higher office and anyone with any political talent rarely got their start on a board of education.
That's why there are always ridiculous lawsuits that make national news because of some local board of education making an idiotic decision based on some student's tee shirt or skin color or science project. It's also why we have so many famous legal cases like Brown vs. Board of Education and the Scopes Monkey Trial. The people on these boards bring their highest thinking to the matters before them, and their highest thinking is mostly disastrous and/or laughable.
