In Are We Smart Enough to Know How Smart Animals Are, author Frans de Waal says the guy who first trained a dog to sit still for an MRI did so by training his own dog with treats to put their muzzles in a specially designed snout-rest identical to the one in the lab MRI (which I think you can see in that picture). Seems it's impossible to get chimps or bonobos (the apes with brains most similar to humans) to endure the constraints of an MRI without freaking out, which of course makes their brain scans useless.
Terrific book, by the way. He talks a lot about whether non-humans can actually use language, and comes down on the "no" side, for complex and interesting reasons.
No joke. Was just on the UC Berkeley campus yesterday and went into the newest chemistry building, named after a guy who…apparently had a shitload of rich friends.
Dear fellow mods- do the bulk options work for you on the dashboard comments? When I try to check the boxes I just get a blue square and I can't bulk delete. Wondering if it's a Chrome issue or a WordPress issue…
I just tried a bulk delete on the trash folder and it worked. I have never tried it on the comments, but when I tried just now what you describe above I didn't get a blue square. That may be because there were no pending comments. I can try again when there is spam.
And judging by the rapturous attention paid by all the dogs to a single point in space in that photo, the human word they're all currently understanding is "BALL!"
Got no problems with the dogs in my neighborhood. Some of the owners who neglect and leave their pooches out to bark all the time though? Yeah, I've got a problem with them.
|That's not all.|
Is the dog singing or complaining?
Yes!
everyone's a critic…
| Seamus | Approves!
Glad you're back.

Don't ever do |this| to your dog.
He could use |some advice.|

I just cleared out about 30 of them. Now we're also getting spam posts. Maybe I'll try logging in from my other browser.
I don't see the spam posts, but I have to head out, I'll check later today and try a bulk delete if there are any.
Interestingly, the checkbox works in Safari, but WordPress is looping the login- just for comments, it'll let me access the rest of the dashboard
Cats can also understand, they just don't care (outside of their constant judging, that is).

Yeah I don't think you can get such single-minded salivation from saying "now who wants to place your head in this MRI?"

Well, duh.
"What's new, pussycat?"
