Clearly the illustration in the hed is just that; a real greenbelt would have a more complex shape that would follow drainages, mountain ranges, national boundaries and other real and man-made natural paths and obstructions. Then I read in the brochure that "[t]he vision of the Great Green Wall is a metaphor that depicts a mosaic of sustainable land uses and community-based land management practices," and I get a little depressed, thinking this could well be a bureaucratic black hole.
But where Africa is concerned optimism is the only hope. Do well, Africans!
