If the pic is too wide or dense (meg-wise) the site will reject the post outright – doesn't even go to mod. I usually pull my pics in to MS Photo Editor and reduce them to "Small Document "size (800 X 600 px ).
Multi-megabyte animated gifs are verboten too.

Yeah, I think the post pic size limit is about 600kB, from my experience. I always check the size first. A pic of Trump's hands is under the limit any time.
I've found that pics wider or taller than 1500 pixels are rejected, but anything up to that size seems to be accepted. MS Paint has an option to resize image now when you have a big'un, for those of us who find Photoshop more trouble to learn than it's worth.
