The first tour the misses had in florida (Naples), one day she came out to her car after work to find a 4 foot iguana sunning itself on the car's roof.
That had to be unnerving. Probably somebody's escaped pet, like almost all of the rest of the introduced species in that benighted peninsula.
We have copperheads, king snakes, and miscellaneous black and green snakes on the farm. One time I was driving into a nearby burg when I noticed a mouse had run up the passenger side door and was sitting on the dashboard. As I drove along I wondered what had made it scurry up like that so I quickly pulled over to poke under the seats with a tire iron. No snake, thankfully.
The king snakes got into the habit of getting into our laying duck huts and eating their eggs. I killed about 3 before I bought some of those 'fake' eggs that the feed stores sell to kill them off. They didn't eat any of those eggs but they haven't been back.
Mokwa said he doesn't know if the snake fell off his car or went back under the hood.
"Tomorrow, in Florida…"
No no no no no no no no no no. No.
The entire Florida Tourism Outreach Office is facepalming right now. Again.

It could have been worse. Way worse.

"We thought you was…a toad!"
No joke, my first xmas in florida, we went to friends who let their iguana swim in their swimming pool. He was cool.
Pretty much verbatim what the news talker on my TV from Reno said last night.
Funny you should post this, I just got back from my jog through the park and encountered one of these | pretty fellas |- about 75 cm long.

Garter snake? I used to catch the Eastern species as a kid. Not as many lovely color variants out this way, but cool nonetheless.
yeah, that's what it's looking like, a coastal garter. We sometimes get them with red stripes, but I think that's the sport/performance package.
the yellow racing stripes give it away.
| These are one of my favorites, | though very hard to find. Always a real thrill to find one.
whoa, baby!

Warm sun above, warm engine below. What is there for a reptile not to love?
