See, the British Empire used to be like this, and the Roman Empire for that matter, troops everywhere fighting the rebels/insurgents/First Peoples/aborigines/Jews. And then one day there's no more money for deployments and weapons systems and pensions and widows' benefits, and the whole thing collapses, either when the Visigoths sack Rome or the best and brightest die in the Battle of the Somme.
