Observation: I purposely sized this image really small: 2.3 inches by about 3.3 inches (my free software doesn't measure in pixels). In the story version the image is big, so my guess is that the WordPress software fills up the space reserved for the image, sizing up if need be, since that seems to be the case with other stories. Or maybe the jpg format. dunno.

I emailed Shy about this awhile back (he's not exactly quick on the replies, what with all the diaper changing). Looking at the source code, my guess is that CSS overrides the original image size. I also asked him about enabling alt text for user uploaded photos. He said those fall under different rules, but that he'd try to fix it
From the little I know I am guessing you are right i.e., the CSS overides it, because the source code for both versions – the MP version and the story version both show the image at 321 x 243.
This deserves to be broadcast. I'm forwarding. It's as good a distillation of the resentment, unfairness and absurdity of modern conservative economic theory as I've seen. Excellent find.
