The Large Father had a sac fly to score a run and a walk in his last two at bats, as the Red Sox lost to the Indians 4-3. An amazing career- to this Red Sox fan who followed them for 26 years, from living in NJ from when I was 13 to three world championships, the first under borderline impossible circumstances, I'll never forget him. There won't be another like him. Thank you, David Ortiz.
I got a side-hug from Big Papi once. It was during some home game (in Boston, obvs) at the season start when the new ownership did some fan appreciation thing (subtitle: please buy tickets this season!!) on opening day where you could mingle before the game with players and take pictures and whatnot. Stupidly, I never did get a picture. But the hug was nice.
He's a man with a giant heart and he will be missed. I bet he's gonna stick around the game in some capacity or another, though.

A [friend of mine] gets to sing the National Anthem with [Hot Buttered Rum] before the SF/Chicago game tonight.
