Let’s not just get rid of so-called “Daylight Savings Time”—let’s drop the whole pretense of time zones entirely

  1. People forget how recent is the development of our whole ungainly apparatus. A century and a half ago, time zones didn’t exist.

Because everyone was on Local Mean Time, where the east end of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge is about 20 seconds ahead of the west end. Though I imagine cell phone networks might be able to make it work with no intervention by the user.

I say we go back to "variable hours" where we insist that sunrise-to-sunset is 12 hours no matter what. I'd certainly like to spend more time hibernating in bed.

    1. when yr glsspshr was a young astronomer, the idea of _everything_ rising an hour later than usual was not good, so one summer I wore a watch set to standard time and stayed on that. Fuck DST. I can see how DST would upset those who are 12 or younger.

Now I realize DST is only something to try to confuse people the earth isn't flat! Wake up, sheeple (an hour earlier)!!11!!
