I visit a site that has nothing to do with politics and isn't even based in this country, it's based in the UK. It's a site about something really inane and hobby-ish. After Brexit a few of the Brits on the site made some comments about their views of the Brexit vote, which was useful as it allowed me to determine who the bigots are (there were a few).
Well, last Wednesday, after our election results came in, I decided to make a mild comment over there saying that the results did not reflect how I voted, simply because I did not want anyone on there thinking I voted for Trump.
Well a few sympathetic folks commented, mildly, to my mild comment (these are mostly Brits, after all). All was well.
Then, a few hours later, one long-time commenter from Georgia came on and just totally LOST HER SHIT. She left a miles-long rant about how hateful we were and how hurtful and mean and full of HATE HATE HATE. She said that it hurt her deeply because she comes to that site to get away from hurtful political rants and we should take our hate elsewhere.
Then she lectured us on how we need to give Trump a chance and how closed-minded we are. Then she launched into a diatribe that was hard to follow, but hit on beer summits, and criminals and lazy black people and liberals are terrible people and Obama was not a legitimate president and he took all the jobs and gave them to his friends, her spew hit all the Fox talking points. It was epic. Must have taken her an hour to type.
Again: All any of the rest of us had said was that we were disappointed and stunned at the outcome.
Megan McArdle: But people who opposed Donald Trump, on both the left and right, should commit right now to one thing: We will not tar good people for joining the Trump administration. Their motives will not be questioned, and if things do turn out as some of his critics fear, the people in his foreign and domestic policy apparatus will not suffer guilt by association.
Apparently she means 'good' in the sense of 'competent', but still, lotta people are trying to figure who she's talking about .
