  1. "Athletes in next year’s Summer Olympics will be swimming and boating in waters so contaminated with human feces that they risk becoming violently ill and unable to compete in the games, an Associated Press investigation has found."

Henghnghngh? They have open-water swimming events in the Olympics? Thought it'd all be in a pool. Surely they can keep people from shitting in the pool for a couple of weeks.

The kayakers'll just have to reach down for a little extra.

    1. Olympic hopefuls will be diving into Copacabana’s surf this Sunday during a triathlon Olympic qualifier event, while rowers take to the lake’s water beginning Wednesday for the 2015 World Rowing Junior Championships. Test events for sailing and marathon swimming take place later in August.

All of these events are outside in surface waters hundreds of times more contaminated than what we consider dangerously contaminated. I like the fact that the only sound advice the medical and environmental scientists have is basically: "Go early, get very, very sick and hope that your immune system bounces back enough so that you can compete." Fuck that. Olympics or no, I'd not want to risk permanent debilitating health problems for some rich folks vanity venue.

      1. Yuck. I've been to Copacabana, and many, many people swim there.

Well, many, many people sit on the beach and preen. And they look terrific.

ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL!?

      1. Only the ladies have to play on artificial surfaces. They wouldn't dream of letting their precious (literally) men cope with the sudden change of surface.

Also, 'plastic pitches' back in the 80's were notoriously awful – and gave the home teams like Luton an unfair advantage. The suits at the FA/UEFA have long memories and aren't quick to embrace new developments in technology (see goal line reviews, and even 'time added on' FFS)
