  1. The fuck does CA know about highways and safety and stuff, anyway? (Highways and safety and stuff in CA was my gig for twenty years or so.)

        1. Ha! It's not their diversity we fear, so much as their uncontrollable desire to cover every open surface with concrete, bituminous or otherwise!

Too much traffic? Build more freeways!

Not enough traffic? Build more freeways!

          1. Widening I-5 most of the way through the county right now. Planning more stuff out east in the more-or-less empty desert, so the developers can throw up more sprawlvilles.

Rubber tires good! Steel wheels bad!

          2. Too many people on this planet, and with your world class climate in SD County, all of them seem to want to live there.

I read [The Population Bomb] in the early 70's and really took it to heart. I had actually determined not to have any kids of my own long before, but that book made me want to personally sterilize half the people on earth.

          3. The missus said she wanted at least one kid. I said I wanted at most one kid, so our interests overlapped.

          4. That's not paradise, that's communism. I can one up you, though- my property doesn't even have a lawn. (Nihilists!)

        1. Maybe you knew Gary Gallegos. He was the chief engineer for CalTRANS around here, and then stepped failed up to being the regional council of gummints (SANDAG) honcho. He does not care for mass transit, puts all programming for it in FY-never, and did it so blatantly the |Cleveland National Forest Foundation| (an admirable and tiny not-for-profit) sued SANDAG's ass and won!

          1. 🎵 She may get wooly…young girls they do get wooly…'cause of all the stress…when they get wooly…try a little…tenderness…🎵

  2. No offense to those of you in the Grand Canyon State, but those self-driving cars will drive safely than a lot of Arizona drivers do.

  3. I have not yet discovered the advantage(s) that Uber has over say, traditional taxicabs. I see lots of stories about "passenger overcharged by Uber driver" or "passenger sexually assaulted by Uber driver" or "Uber driver underpaid", which either by availability phenomenon or selection bias or some other reason I do not tend to see about taxi drivers.

    1. Please provide us with a list of things you have not yet discovered, but expect to, in the next 18 months (use the back of this comment if necessary).

Friend of a friend had to avoid b)- avoiding sexual assault by uber driver
