And where better for those who make large bets on the collapse of society to confer than Facebook:
In private Facebook groups, wealthy survivalists swap tips on gas masks, bunkers, and locations safe from the effects of climate change. One member, the head of an investment firm, told me, “I keep a helicopter gassed up all the time, and I have an underground bunker with an air-filtration system.” He said that his preparations probably put him at the “extreme” end among his peers. But he added, “A lot of my friends do the guns and the motorcycles and the gold coins. That’s not too rare anymore.”
First paragraph: founder of Reddit takes one good look at his own users fears for survival of human race.
And he had eye surgery done, elective surgery on a critical organ, in the hopes of increasing his survival. Did he balance the odds his vision becoming worse versus the odds of him losing however many pairs of shatter-resistant glasses he can afford when he did his "chances of survival" math?
And more broadly: Imagine the end of civilization. Your bank accounts are nuked. You get to your super-secure shelter with the biker-cum-mercenary pictured above guarding it, the shelter full of all your food, gold, etc.
Why would he let you in? Are you gong to write him a check (as if tech bros even know how to do that)? Offer your skills that are only useful on the technology that is, by definition in this scenario, destroyed or otherwise rendered useless?
Forget the eyes and work on your dental. Keep that mouth purdy.
The armed guards at my super secret apocalyptic doom lair will be clean-shaven so they can actually wear a gas mask/respirator/etc. Shaving regulations in military and industrial jobs aren't just a fashion statement, fuckin' teabagger!
The last few days have made it abundantly clear to me that I won't survive if it comes to that. I can't even handle a foot or two of snow, for fuck's sake…
Ah, the old "drugs in the woodpile" trick! I like it!
I'm a part-time servant to a not-quite wild cat. He was inside when the storms began. He's not box-trained, and that suits us both fine. It was difficult to convince him that he should go outside on occasion. I had to herd him out a few times, but finally today he saw bare ground outside the window and went out willingly. I've never seen a cat slip into such a deep depression over snow. Myself, on the other hand, well, I think I handled it like a grown ass man.
Reid Hoffman, the co-founder of LinkedIn and a prominent investor, recalls telling a friend that he was thinking of visiting New Zealand. “Oh, are you going to get apocalypse insurance?” the friend asked. “I’m, like, Huh?” Hoffman told me. New Zealand, he discovered, is a favored refuge in the event of a cataclysm. Hoffman said, “Saying you’re ‘buying a house in New Zealand’ is kind of a wink, wink, say no more. Once you’ve done the Masonic handshake, they’ll be, like, ‘Oh, you know, I have a broker who sells old ICBM silos, and they’re nuclear-hardened, and they kind of look like they would be interesting to live in.’ ”
I tried to delete my account, but you can't unless you have your password. On the plus side, not having a password also prevents me from logging in at all.

All this prepping must be pretty expensive. That's why the rich need more tax cuts.

What did Kiwis do to deserve this?
Linkedin, the facebook of the business world. I avoid that too.
I did see someone's skills on linkedin included time travel and witchcraft, so I did have a laugh at that.

Don't worry. They're still tracking every web site you visit and selling that information to somebody or other.
No lie- it took me like forever to get out of there- like fucking gum on my shoe
Missile silos for sale in New Zealand? Does this particular Nigerian prince also have the title to the Brooklyn Bridge?

Really? I thought "Law Day" wasn't until 5/1.
Of course, Weld was on the libertarian ticket.

Is that gas capable? I don't know why I want one, but I do. I've got a torch set and a small Campbell-Hausfeld buzz box that I already rarely use.
