I've been to the Cahokia Mounds |State Park| and can report that it's pretty cool. There's a nice interpretive center and, if you're feeling fit, you can climb to the top of one of the mounds.
BTW: St Louis bears the sobriquet "Mound City" because of the earlier civilization's remnants.
