Saw Pat Donohue last night, and it was good. 300-seat theater maybe half full. He played a song based on the last few paragraphs of James Joyce's great story "The Dead," which was amazing because (1) who does that? and (2) it was a beautiful and poignant song. He played Schubert's "Ave Maria." His finale was guess what, "Freight Train," every finger-picker's first piece, which he transforms into a lesson for the aspiring guitarist: "You'll never be this good."

"The Honeymooners" was full of threatened domestic violence, set in New York, and the central figure was an overweight government employee who wore a jacket as part of his uniform. Hmmm….
