          1. OK . So maybe it refers to the 'fallen angel ' of myth, bit did Amos Easton coin ' strange angel'?

  1. Yeah. I bought one last spring, and gave it away on Thanksgiving. I've got enough instruments I can't play for shit, I don't want any of them to also cause physical pain.

    1. I've made some satisfying mandolin progress over the past two years. Granted, it sat in a closet collecting dust and rust for 5 years before that…

      1. I played violin for a long time, so I thought a mando would be a slam dunk. I failed to take into account all the years of abuse to the various parts of my body, mostly my arthritic fingers and sound-deadened ears. I still pick up a guitar, the bass or a ouke and plonk around, but not when anyone else might hear it.

  2. 12 string acoustics are brutal on your fingers. I haz none experience with electrics, but a Rickenbacker 360 should be on everybody's list.

  3. Yeah, well skip it then.

Not yet, still waiting to see it. Also an Alvarez, and from what I've read is one of three or so models that's worth considering.

  4. I have a Chinese Alvarez acoustic/electric bass. Surpisingly good quality and tone, even with 10 or 15 year-old strings.

  5. My friend is trying to part with a 1994 model 4070. He says the electronics need work, which is fine as long as the luthierism is in good shape.

  6. Mine's a newer model AB60CE. The Baggs pickup is decent, but sometimes it fails to make contact with the bridge and kills whatever string, usually the "E". No "E", no bottom. Just gotta take it off and sand the bridge flat again.
