  1. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will propose repealing the Clean Power Plan — the Obama administration's centerpiece regulation to fight climate change — and plans to solicit input on a rule to replace it, according to an EPA document seen by Reuters.

The new rule: there ARE NO RULES! Get rid of those stack scrubbers, and maybe the stacks themselves! Burn that coal until the forests are all dead from acid rain! Remember: people¹ who die of emphysema before age 65 don't go on Medicare or draw Soshecurity! Win-win!

  2. My father was an engineer/construction manager with the electric company in Chicago, and spent most days of his working life at coal-fired power plants that were being expanded with new boiler-generator units. He used to take me with sometimes when he went in on Saturdays, and one of those days we walked down the long, sloped structure that contained a conveyor belt carrying coal from the car dumper to the coal-feed for the boiler. The air was thick with Illinois soft coal dust.

Of course he also smoked most of his life and had had bad asthma as a child.
