1. OT, but I've been planning some air travel for next spring and learned that Jet Blue is experimenting with a new system for transferring passengers. <img src="https://i.kinja-img.com/gawker-media/image/upload/s–0PxKenN8–/c_scale,fl_progressive,q_80,w_800/zuiulfy8qnwx1v5ypj7y.gif">

    1. Could it be that the pu**y-grabber-in-chief and his BFF Roy Moore are enabling this sort of behavior?

(IDt won't let me put the s's in that word)

  2. BTW, the aircraft in that stunt is the renowned |Pilatus Porter|, whose turboprop engine gives it the ability to take off and land on unimaginably short runways, roads, cornfields, etc. Air America shared the runway at Udorn Royal Thai Air Force Base when I was stationed there, and those little planes would land and turn off at the first taxiway.

Also, per wik-uh-pedia: "By 1967 or earlier, air force weather modification flights were originating from a special operations group at Udorn. No more than four C‐130s, and usually only two, were assigned to the restricted section of the base. Their mission was to create rainfall over North Vietnam, Laos, and South Vietnam to hamper enemy logistics and tactical initiative."

  3. They had their own base on the opposite side of the runway from the USAF facilities where I was stationed. Their pistol-packing, hard-drinking, prostitute-purchasing, motorcycle-riding behavior was legendary. They had a club, quarters, ops facilities, hangars, everything, and the weirdest collection of aircraft imaginable. Thai mechanics did their maintenance for five baht/hour.

There was also in NSA listening post near Udorn, one of their "elephant corral" antenna arrays. Knew a few guys who worked there too; they were more cerebral of course.
