On this sportsball night, am I correct the Wonkville Hockey draft is off because ESPN says not enough teams? Obviously Wonkville fantasy sportsball teams are a bit off, but that is part of the charm.

Also too, just saw an ad for the Astros-Yankees AL playoff game, and I just need to object to the Astros being in the American League because I am old and cranky.
The allure of profits from gambling clouds otherwise rational minds. Giving people more ways to bet on the outcomes of sports is sure to threaten the integrity of sports and create more gambling addicts, especially among young people who are already more likely to engage in risky behaviors.
Not sure where I stand on this, so I'd be interested in hearing from any of you who have an opinion on the topic…
Drew Magary's Deadspin column last week pointed out all the similarities between these daily sport betting sites and those online poker gambling sites that got shut down a couple years ago for being illegal. Like, nearly the same interface, and, apparently, a lot of the same professional gamblers vacuuming up all the big prize money. Also, a lot of the money backing these fantasy sites comes from media companies (that is, the people running all the sports shows and podcasts that are blanketed with ads for them)
So, already grumblings about cracking down on these sites, so this insider trading allegation could end up hurting them big. I wouldn't be surprised if they end up getting banned by more states, or even shut down federally by the end of the year.
Given that some of the soccer teams in the UK have online betting companies sponsoring their jerseys, I find the US fear (and hypocrisy) about gambling on sports a bit weird.
Mind you, there are also predatory lending companies who sponsor teams too.
I don't gamble because I'm just not very good at it. (I once got 2 numbers right on a Powerball ticket, that's the closest I've come to ever "winning.") I'm just sick of their commercials. If I have to see those two dudebros from New England in that DraftKings commercial again I might spit.
I started playing a salary cap game in the late '90's called Head2Head, which I played up until about 5 years ago. I won my league once and got $250. (wooo!!) Salary cap just got really boring after awhile, not to mention the league prize was minimal. (The grand prize was 25k, but there was no way in hell you could win that– you'd have to be extremely lucky). During that time, I started betting on actual games on matchbook.com with a neteller account. Shortly after I set all that up, neteller dropped the U.S. market entirely, and I had to find another way to fund any transactions I wanted to make on matchbook (which was *really* difficult).. I did win money quite a few times but it was a pain in the ass to wait a month for a check to be mailed from Antigua or the Isle of Man or wherever.
Anyhoo… it's just not worth the effort anymore, so I stopped. (Also, certain states have restrictive laws– next time you see a Draft Kings commercial, look at the fine print: "Residents of AZ, LA, MT, IA, VT are not eligible for cash prizes").. It was fun while it lasted!

So it seems like this game has generated some controversy, as the Seahawks player in the end zone (not the one that caused the fumble) batted the ball out of bounds. Technically, that should have been a penalty with the Lions getting the ball back in the half-yard line.
