No way Seymour Hersh’s account of bin Laden’s death is accurate….well, uh…

  1. If this post hadn't been locked in moderation purgatory for so long, this pull-quote from the article might have been more apropos:

Over time, many of Hersh’s claims could be proved right. What then? We may be justifiably outraged. Pakistan, our putative ally in the war on terror and the beneficiary of billions of dollars in U.S. taxpayer aid, would have provided refuge to our greatest enemy — the author of the very act that prompted us to invade Afghanistan. The audacious raid on bin Laden’s compound, our greatest victory in the war on terror, would have been little more than ‘‘a turkey shoot’’ (Hersh’s phrase). Above all, our government would have lied to us.

But should we really be shocked by such a revelation? After all, it would barely register on a scale of government secrecy and deception that includes, in recent years alone, the N.S.A.’s covert wiretapping program and the C.I.A.’s off-the-books network of ‘‘black site’’ prisons.

The article then goes into several hundred more words of chin-stroking consideration over what it means to "know" things. But the point is: Hersh might well have been right, that the dogged and beautiful CIA investigator never had a clue as to where bin Laden was but only bought the info with a $25 million reward, and that our loyal Pakistani allies in the GWOT pre-approved the hit and pretended otherwise when embarrassed by it.

Also: sorry about the Hersh pic.

    1. If the Seals had killed some innocent civilians and either/both governments had buried it (sic) then I'd be concerned.

Governments dissemble. I'm surprised anyone bought the fake surprise that the Pakistani had to feign about the US flying over for a tactical strike on their territory. But hey ho, thanks to Hersh for digging – glad he just found a few white lies and no enormous (WMD-sized) one.
