    1. My community had an "El Nino" town hall meeting last night. Several hundred people showed up. All the gov't agencies were there. Painted a pretty scary picture.

      1. Flooding and mudslides mostly? Those seem to be the biggest threats by far. California really badly needs the rain though, so it's a trade-off. Too bad the snow in the Sierras might not be as great as one would hope due to the warmer air.

        1. Yes. There were some nasty |flash floods/mudslides| yesterday. They were in the canyon and desert communities just to the north of Los Angeles, as the system that was moving through bottled up against the mountains. I live farther west near the coast, but we have our share. The burned hillsides aren't helping things, either.

          1. Basically the same reason why Haiti gets mudslides with every tropical system and the Dominican Republic gets much fewer. No vegetation. Hope everything stays okay this winter where you are, at least. And anyone else on Wonkville, really.

          2. I think the other SoCal Wonkvillians live in the urban areas. My property will be fine, but our main roads wash out occasionally, so I just make sure to stock up on pet food.

          3. That stretch of Highway 58 used to be a part of my area of responsibility. We had cattle fall off the hillsides before, but never this much mud. I've never seen such a devastating mudslide, not on the highways anyway. We lost 14 miles of highway through Death Valley back in about 2004, even killed some people, but this was something else!
