Cool! Most of the pest squirrels 'round here are the Eastern Grays (Sciurus carolinensis) that are quite a bit smaller than the Fox, which are spectacular.
There's a lot of |Southern Flying Squirrels|, believe it or not, in the NJ Pine Barrens and patchily distributed all through the Delmarva peninsula. Not well known, as they prefer dense woodlands and are mostly nocturnal.
I love black squirrels! We had a few pairs around my parent's house in MN. They didn't seem to get along too well with the regular, old, boring grey squirrels. I suspect the grey squirrels are racists.
Squirrel Pie.
Did not know 'Delmarva' name, or it's non-relationship with the name 'Del Mar'.
We have a very limited range gray Sciurus,in the hills around here.

That's the weird thing. Ours are gray, and a squirrel, but closer to fox than to E. grays. They got pretty used to birders waltzing around.
I saw one of these up near Carp, Ontario a few years ago, right outside the motel sliding glass door.

Melanistic phase. Thought it was a cat.
Whoa.

Is it now legal to bark at them?
I hope so, because Some around here never stopped.
