I saw Fleck with Jean-Luc Ponty and Stanley Clark one time. Fleck is brilliant, but a pompous ass. When he inevitably tried to steer it into something unrecognizable, Clark kinda shook his head and took it over. Bela Fleck got his musical ass handed to him, and it was beautiful.
I've worked with both of them- separately and together. They're part of that small group of people that just shame you and make you put down your instrument, once you've seen how well it can actually be played.
