Soon, New Jersey will be the last state where drivers refuse to learn how to pump their own gas.

    1. Sitting snugly behind the wheel with the radio blasting, not inhaling nasty fumes or getting gas on our hands. We're good, trust.

          1. Chris Christie doesn't pump his own gas. Do you really want to be like Chris Christie?

          2. I have a friend who I went to HS with out here, she lived in dread before her move to CA that she'd (shudder!) have to pump her own gas.

          3. There was a brief movement to institute self serve again recently. The pols pushing it didn't even hide that they were planning to hugely jack up the gas tax at the same time — so, now we were supposed to do more work, pay more per gallon, plus have a crapton of attendants put out of their jobs? No brainer. No thanks.

          4. Please, please, slowly increase the gas tax and start throwing the money at alternatives. If you value something so cheaply you burn it the first chance you get, ur doin it rong.in the 20 years since I’ve left the Garden State. I don’t miss full serve at all. Nobody touches my car.

          5. Already doing that, in various ways.

I actually have no horse in this, since I have a magical handicapped placard that makes gas stations have to pump my gas no matter what at self serve price, but I've noticed in self-serve (aka all other states), finding an actual attendant is like finding good pizza outside the Northeast.

          6. You have no horse in this, but I don't know if I follow your train of thought. That ship has sailed, I suppose.

          7. Also, close but no cigar, I'll be on the east coast in a couple of weeks, but won't be able to make it to the old stomping grounds. I'm going to have my sister bring up provisions to Boston, though…

          8. Damn. Would have been nice. I even figured out that you can get two hours of free parking in Princeton now if you validate your ticket at the library. But have fun in Boston!

    1. "I suggest you not underestimate the staggering drawing power of The Garden State, and buy your tickets at least 2 hours in advance"

    2. There's a truly disturbing number of these clips up on YouTube. Maybe we will want to re-think "Self Serve" when we switch out to fast electric charge?

Although, those videos would be really funn… what am I saying!?!

  1. So, this is all good. Even with no self serve, I remember seeing a car at a gas station on Rt 1 in NJ last one Sat night take off with the nozzle still in their tank. Hose stretched and snapped like a rubber band.

Also, one time getting gas in my 1972 VW Fastback, I pulled up with my dash even to the pump. The attendant came over and yelled "Pull it up all the way!". OK, asshole, I thought, no prob!. I pulled it up all the way and while he's trying to find the gas lid in back I pop the lid for it up front. Next time ask nicely and I'll tell you you're wrong…nicely.

How could self serve be a prob?
