  1. If three or more people want to marry each other, then whatever. But given how messy (sic) organising a threesome is…. a long-term contract? Yeesh.

But in theory, what's the big fucking deal?

    1. Hell, we have a hard enough time figuring out a long-term marriage contract between just two people*. But, much like BDSM, if people really want to inflict that upon themselves…

*EDIT–Imagine if you will: Two young people happily getting married, and then less than four weeks later he's arrested at work for downloading CP.

    2. Has to do with the most important binder of the Social Contract: money, natch. Do polygamous marriage spouses all qualify for Soshecurity spousal/survivor benefits? Who is the default ("by law") beneficiary of a polygamete who dies intestate? If one polygamete is in the military, do all the spouses receive service-member benefits (medical care, PX and Commissary access, family housing)? Must each polygamete leave a certain percentage of his or her estate to each of the others, or can he leave it all to one, or none of them? Who gets spousal support when one or more of them wants a divorce?

And who gets the cats? And can Mormons go back to the old ways?

None of these questions applies to gay marriage between two people.

Not saying it shouldn't happen, only that it raises different, and perhaps more difficult questions.

  2. This question is pressing in light of the fact that support for polygamy has risen rapidly (from 7% to 16%) among Americans over the past few years.

Whoa, that's as big of a surge as Donald Trump! Or Bernie Sanders! Or… Wait, you mean that means 84% still don't want it?
