  1. Shockingly, this seems to not be an entirely uncommon practice. In 2012, China man Jian Feng successfully sued his wife for $120,000 when their daughter was born “very ugly,” according to Elite Daily. Feng later discovered that his wife had altered her appearance prior to their marriage with extensive plastic surgery.

This gives the term "your mileage may vary" an entirely different meaning…

        1. I think that might be a dead kid; families used to often not have any photograph of a child and so splurged on one at the last opportunity. Some are pretty creepy looking.

          1. And they handed them out as carte de visites. Phillipe Aies book "The Hour of Our Death" talks about it at length.

          2. Photoshop seems the most likely thing. I grew up knowing older people who had 19th century sensibilities about death. They showed photos from funerals and commented on the funeral home's work. So I wouldn't be surprised at the sadder alternative, either.

          3. Yeah, the Southron branch of my fambly tree had photo albums full of funeral pix. Glad it didn't rub off on the rest of us.

          4. It's downright sick how much stock the South puts in death, the dead, and the past. They could have called the Confederacy "Greater Wallachia."
