The people I know who spent time digging, or climbing into, holes in the ground in the Northwest Territories got paid pretty good money. No idea if they were unionised, but I would presume so.
On the other hand, with no organisation to back them up, these poor fuckers in Kentucky will start getting picked off at will, and no doubt will be whining their heads off in a few years.
