It sure looked like a lateral attempt to me, he should have just fallen on it and made Michigan State take a deep shot into the end zone.
Edit: ESPN sees it differently:
With the Wolverines ahead 23-21 and 10 seconds left, Michigan punter Blake O'Neill bobbled a low snap and spun around to try to make the kick. But he was hit, and the ball popped free. Watts-Jackson caught it, broke a few tackles in the final yards and made it into the end zone.
If you scroll back to an earlier post on DS about the game*, the Michigan punter is an Australian rugby player, which is probably why his instinct was to run/make the kick instead of falling into a fetal position wrapped around the ball LIKE AN AMERICAN.
* He made an 80-yard punt, which is amazing, but doesn't quite make up for blowing the win.
Watching it a few more times, it looks more like he was hit while he turned and held the ball one-handed, which sort of exacerbated the spinning motion and the ball came loose.
Either way, I agree, just fall on it…. but then he is a punter. Poor bugger.
I know we usually leave football to a Sunday but REOSDFJGSDFLGJADFBKDFMGNSZDIKFeasfSAJDFSADF
GO BLUE!
oh. wait……..[ hahahahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaah]
I don't know who I wanted to win but the chaos was SO GOOD
Did the punter try to pass it, or was it knocked loose in the tackle?
