The tastiest part of the Canadian election, for me, was Harper's huge photo-op rally with the Ford Brothers and then having all of Etobicoke flip Liberal in a Conservative election day bloodbath. A thing of beauty.
That said, Calgary itself is okay – in a boomtown type of way. People say Edmonton is similar… except coooold… but I haven't been.
The rest of Alberta – and Saskatchewan – is twinned with Outer Bumfuck. It's as likely to go liberal/democrat as Kansas or Alabama.
