Woke early this morning and watched "Game Change." How amazing to see Palin morph from humble bumpkin dazzled by all the glitz of big-time politics into the damanding diva who wanted people fired for not doing what she wanted, immediately.
Have to say also that Julianne Moore's performance makes you feel something you'd think impossible: sympathy for Palin as she sees herself and her family mercilessly criticized and satirized for everything they do, have done, and propose to do.
It's not hard to see why Steve Schmidt and Nicolle Wallace haven'tworked for anybody's campaign ever since that one. They gave up so much dirt that no one could ever trust them again.
Or, seeing how truly despicable this woman is, they had enough of a shred of integrity to get out. The problem is that the rest of the right wing can never admit they are wrong. She's been marginalized for sure, but quietly.
My impression is that criticism and satire roll off Palin like water off a duck's back. She's so convinced of her own righteousness that nothing can shake her self-belief. That may not make for good cinema, though.
Oh no – I'd say she's a fascinating character. Definitely an antagonist, and it's good to have solid, stubbornly static characters to show how much other people have learned or developed.
Not a protagonist, per se but as a wonderfully flawed individual you can bounce 'normal' people off…
In the movie, Smith and Wallace realize Palin is unwilling to learn about the issues they expect she'll be to be ask about, but they believe her to be "the best actress in politics." So they just have her memorize answers to the questions likely to be asked, and that's what she did in the debate with Biden. Her only glitch was the unbreakable habit of calling him "Obiden."
It's an HBO Original movie. It's on HBO and on Amazon Instant if you have Prime. (It will never be on Netflix unless/until HBO revokes their exclusive deal with Amazon.)
