  1. Thank you. Those are inland seas and anyone who lives near or sails on them knows how terrible they can get. I grew up next to the North Atlantic & know from bad weather but they frighten me.

    Today's the tail end of that other "Witch of November" gale, the apocalyptic |1913 White Hurricane.| If you're not scared yet you will be after you read that.

  2. Me too, though I used to mess about in boats. On one uneventful trip back from Catalina Island on my Columbia 24, I got knocked down by a rogue wind. My masthead hit the water before I could dump wind from my sails. She righted, but the starboard side spreader was broken. I made it all the way back to King Harbor on a single tack, thankfully. Could've gotten really dicey in the shipping lane at night. Anyone that tells you a sailboat has right-of-way has never been near a container ship underway. Even if they could see you, they can't avoid you.
