For sure on save the piano. Caught a show a few weeks back where Schiff played a modern Steinway, and [ an 1876 model recently restored ] by a guy named Obi in Tacoma. Was just amazing the difference in tone. Seems today all the concert grands are Steinway, but back in the day there were a bazillion piano makers in Vienna with a ton of variation in woods, and design. Guess it was kinda similar to guitars today where you can pick from variations of spruce, cedar, koa, maple, mahogany, rosewood, sapele, cigar box, whatever.
Some NPR guy wrote a book about mid-life learning to play [ can't remember who or title ], but he toured some Steinway warehouse in NY , I think, and some good stuff about different sounding pianos.
I once looked at a Steinway through a window, that's as close as I ever got. Played the blues once on a $50K Yamaha though.
I guess especially during the 19c. piano boom lotsa places were cranking out pianos.
So I take it that one's room is not supposed to look like this [but with a digital piano and old guitar ] ?

The piano in the photos just needs a little TLC.
