Reminder: Never eat Cincinnati chili RT @ESPNMondayNight: Someone from @HoustonTexans threw up during Pregame. #MNF
I'm in the awkward position of rooting for the Houston Texans (enemy of my team's enemy &etc.) Oh well, WTF, I hope this game is at least entertaining…
In all fairness, the whole FB profile thingy is pretty damn dumb (they all are, regardless the 'cause') and is nothing more than lazy slacktivism. I'm not nearly the curmudgeon to actually give people grief for it, but c'mom folks, try actually doing something to show solidarity, not just click on something to make your profile pic look pretty.
If the button didn't exist they'd have likely changed their pics to a French flag manually.
Seriously, I don't think the French flag thing is hurting anyone at all and I've seen quite a few from France appreciative of the gesture. Sometimes even a small thing helps. Sure, giving money would be another good step, but it's certainly a lot better than nothing and is a lot better than the typical "slacktivism" that you'll see around when things are quieter.
Meh, it probably doesn't hurt anything, but I doubt it does much more than doing nothing, either. The problem in all these cases is that it gives Facebookers a chance to pat themselves on the back as if they've done something useful, so they're less likely to to do anything else. I'm sure French people do appreciate the gesture, though I'd argue that it's a bit of a slap in the face to the families of the 22 dead in Baghdad or the 43 dead from the 2 suicide bomb attacks in Beirut the day before- considering how completely they've been ignored in contrast. Hell, I doubt most people on Facebook could even identify the Lebanese flag…
I have a friend who lives in Montpelier (outside Paris, not the one in Vermont) who challenged his FB friends to donate to the Red Crescent if they switched to a red/white/blue icon. Raised 2150 Euros.
now we're talking- more of that
So, who, or what, exactly, is a "Brock Osweiler"? And, has anyone seen one in the wild?
Yep. While watching the six hours of ESPN's MNF Countdown Extravaganza I saw on the crawly ticker thingy that Saints' coach Sean "I Should Be Banned From Football For Life" Payton said earlier today that Ryan wouldn't be fired. Commercial break… The crawl now reads "Breaking News: Rob Ryan Fired."
I guess I don't know who ultimately made the decision or if Payton knew and was just talking out of his ass or what. But if Payton did know, it was a total dick move, which is not unexpected from that prick asshole dirty fucking cheater and mastermind of Bountygate. Seriously, everyone involved in that bullshit should have gotten Pete Rose-style bans from football for life. They shouldn't be able to coach or attend a game anywhere, not in the NFL, not college, not high school, not Pop Warner, not even Canada!
Hey, no one shouted "Muslims suck!" during tonight's moment of silence. Way to be, Cincy! Also, credit where credit is due, thank you A. A. Ron Rod-gers for calling out that fuckwit at Lambeau yesterday.
I was convinced someone would yell something like that in Cincinnati knowing how that city can be. I'm pleasantly surprised.
Also Aaron Rodgers is probably liberal. Takes a bit of the sting out of knowing the Packers are on a 3-game losing streak and have to go on a road against probably better Vikings team (please prove me wrong, Aaron)
Well, he is dating Olivia Munn, who is a noted goofball, if that means anything.
Honestly, I'm really glad he called that fucker out. Rodgers is ridiculously talented and seems like a class act (except for when he throws his team's Microsoft Surface on the ground. C'mon, man! Those things cost money!)
Goofball, and former correspondent for TDS and major role on Sorkin's Newsroom. I'd say the chances of Rodgers being at least liberal-adjacent are pretty damned good. And I am okay with that (all right, I'm actually pretty thrilled).
Also, c'mon, it was a Surface. He never would have done that to an iPad.
That is a lovely idea as long as Olivia doesn't mind being pregnant — although I guess they have more than enough cash to use her eggs with a surrogate and hire all the nannies/mannies.
Also too, true that. Maybe they should be using those Kindles for Kids on the sidelines, just to be safe.
Well, I wasn't proposing some sort of forced breeding/eugenics type of situation or anything. Remember this ditty? "I've been around the world to find that only stupid people are breeding…" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jJo0MT3wDBs
So, we're just past the half-way point of the season and I'm wondering, who is the FLEENER this year? Before the season started, I was going to promote ERTZ as the next FLEENER, but ERTZ has sucked so far. Maybe EIFERT? CHARCANDRICK? MERCILUS?
I had peroneal tendinitis this year, still bothers me slightly. I like to not be that person who whines, but damn I had no idea that tendinitis could be such a painful weird thing that just lingers and makes you live your life around it.
I have RA and am allergic to about 75% of all antibiotics, so a few years back when I was in the hospital with some stuff including an infection, some doctor who is not my regular doctor gave me some random antibiotic that's one of the few I'm not allergic to… but failed to notice the big caution to never give it to people with RA… because it causes Achilles Tendinitis, Which lasts for SIX MONTHS. Basically, to get rid of my infection, I ended up with something beyond two sprained ankles for half a year. Forget killing Baby Hitler, I ever get a time machine, I'm taking out that doctor.
Dear ESPN/ABC/Disney Worldwide Global Conglomerate: If we promise* to watch the AMAs (yes, they're still a thing) will you please stop showing that J Lo commercial? K thx bai.
Or the Ravens could have not grabbed the face mask on the play. That would have worked too.
Details, details.

Also too, two of the comments in the Deadspin linky are worth copy-pasting:

Also, for the hot take of the day, this was a real headline at the UK's Independent:
Got a French flag on your Facebook profile picture? Congratulations on your corporate white supremacy
Not too often that something on the left makes me cringe this badly.
Oh, for fuck's sake.
Or, if my rusty French combined with Google Translate can be trusted:
Oh pour l'amour de baise.

Also, Rob Ryan, aka Pregnant Kenny Rogers, has been fired. http://deadspin.com/report-saints-finally-fire-ro…
Didn't they say he wouldn't be fired just this morning? Quick turn-around!

They both seem like good people, which means they should start cranking out babbies to combat the Palins & Duggars of the world.
Also, who among us hasn't thrown a piece of Microsoft machinery? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N9wsjroVlu8

HE HATE ME! For old times' sake.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rod_Smart
I forgot the XFL existed.
There was a USFL, briefly. I even attended a game: Denver Gold vs NJ, uh, Generals! W/Herschel Walker, come to think of it.
I forgot all about He Hate Me!
Hoomanawanui!
Ooh, that's a good one. Just saw the Texans' TE: FIEDOROWICZ!
We have an answer to the "WTF is wrong with Peyton Manning" question from yesterday:
Snark off: I had an issue with a plantar fascia injury in my left foot earlier this year, and that injury suuuucks. Hope he heals up soon,,,
Isn't that in addition to some bruised ribs? No wonder he was having a shit day

I'm so sorry you had to go through that, shel. Sometimes, doctors suck and are just fucking oblivious to their patient's needs, history, etc.
Wait, it wasn't Ben Carson, was it?
I'll take him out too! GIMME A TIME MACHINE!
Good god, Shel, that's horrible.
Wow. An exciting 6-3 game so far. And now the Texans have put in their backup QB. I don't know if I can handle much more excitement.
This game feels like a fitting end to a really weird week.
Holy shit, a touchdown happened! Nice catch, also.
This is why I am watching Fargo, which is AMAZINGLY GOOD.
For literally no reason whatsoever: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d3HErOOaAfs

*We won't actually watch.
Holy shit–I said I was rooting for Houston, but I didn't think they were actually going to win. Hurray!
The movie is great. The tv series, now on season 2, is just as worth watching. Season 1 was incredible, and, somehow, season 2 is even better.
First season is on Hulu.
