  1. OT, but tech related: Just sent a comment to the spam filter that obviously, from the email address, was from a p0rn spammer, but the text was actually a very, very long paragraph criticizing the headline on the (very old) Duggar post, suggesting we look at Yahoo to get ideas for better headlines. Sheesh, everyone's a critic, even spammers!

  2. Thanks for this, but since we have no WiFi and only a festive holiday wreath Mrs. weejee made on door not a problem. Ran Cat 6 in the walls of our 100-year-old bungalow when fixing earthquake dislodged lath and plaster. None of the neighbors go overboard with the lights, but if they do in the future I have metal foil in the single coil recesses of my Partzcaster™, and if that's not enough do have one axe with classic humbuckers.

  3. The agency has released a new app to check for interference that, alas, is only available in Britain.

It's a relief to learn that interference is unavailable in the States.

  4. The comments on the mod page show not only the email the ID person signed up with and the IP, but also, for nearly all of the spammers, a website address (I think that's optional when you sign up for an ID account, but for some reason spammers always do fill it in). This guy's website listed was "xx2porn" because he's an idiot.

There are actually a lot of spammers who lecture us on how to make Wonkville better, but this guy was more personal than most. Usually they just yell about SEO.

  5. This is silliness. Yes, theoretically a string of lights could interfere (especially if you mount your router in the damned xmas tree), but you should be far more worried about your refrigerator, your microwave, your TV and even your computer as sources for RFI. Biggest mistake people make is not giving decent line of sight to the router, usually by burying it on some shelf behind a bunch of crap (BTW don't set it on top of a speaker to get better access, that speaker has a giant magnet in it). Change the broadcast channel as necessary, password protect it so you're not giving your neighbors free WiFi and don't expect it to pass through several walls without losing signal strength.

  6. That's what was weird about the one referring us to Yahoo, it wasn't generic, he specifically cited the headline and subject matter of the article he was commenting in. They do usually seem copy and pasted (and they're usually fairly pandering, "Love your website, I can make it batter!")

  7. I looked for it in the spam folder, but it seems to be deleted. Kinda funny that some actual human took the time to type something up…

most of the stuff I see is either Pron, Ambien or Viagra

  8. It's still there, we just get such a mind-boggling amount of spam (most of which autoroutes to the spam folder, thankfully) that it's already rolled to page 3. It's the one with the email address "keithbettencourt".
