Good guys with guns are not always crack shots. All recent high profile police shootings involved emptying high capacity clips into the deceased and often innocent bystanders. Encouraging every Bubba to be ready to start 'spraying and praying' will lead to far more carnage than the mass shooters create.
I had a racist aunt who always carried a .38 snub nosed revolver in her car. The entire extended family was always afraid she would have car trouble and gun down any black or brown who stopped to help an old lady. We were all lucky except that her son has even worse racism.
