  1. Driving around today, I stumbled upon a sports talk station on which some guy was going on about how awful Seattle was last week–he said something like "they were responsible for 20% of what happened in that game" and they only won due to sheer luck. The show's co-host countered by pointing out that it was FUCKING COLD in that game, and winning was a matter of sheer survival, so it's not as if the Seahawks or the Vikings even could have played better.

Not sure who I agree with, but I'd be curious to hear from those of you whose experience with truly cold weather is more recent than mine…

    1. I honestly don't know if the cold had that much to do with the outcome. It certainly affected the players, because it's fucking cold. But, both teams had to deal with it and both teams had heated benches on the sidelines.

I've had to shovel snow, stack logs, etc. in sub-zero weather. Even if you're bundled up properly and constantly moving, it still just gets to you. You feel it in your bones. I really can't imagine having to be out there for an hour and a half at a time. All your body wants to do is go inside and get warm. If it can't do that, then you just have to keep moving. I remember watching old Vikings game in the 70s at the old outdoor Metropolitan Stadium (before the days of heated benches) and the players would just be jumping up and down on the sidelines. That's all you can do: just keep moving.

    1. I have it on while reading the news and such, though I had to step out and run some errands so I missed a good part of the 3rd quarter.

    2. I had the TV on in the kitchen while making dinner and it was on or at least some guy was talking about it and was on the field (is it on ABC? if so, then it was the pre-game show I think.)

  2. Cold hurts- end of story. When it gets down to zero or below, it hurts to breath, it hurts to move, it hurts to not move, your limbs go numb and your brain goes numb.

  3. I remember marching band days where we used a plastic mouthpiece so your lips didn't freeze on the metal. Cold also does funny things to musical instruments
