We were driving eastbound on Foothill blvd. in Mike's enormous '56 Cadillac when "Fame" came on the state-of-the-art cassette stereo system. Right at the point in the tune where Bowie does the descending vocal, Fame, fame, fame, fame…etc – that's when the brown windowpane really kicked in. It was a long, long, drive and naturally we just kept rewinding the tape to the beginning of the song. Other stuff happened too, but it's all a bit hazy now.
