    1. Double down on the stay safe. You folks aren't used to this kinda stuff, and with those winds you might see drifts up to 20 feet. Maybe Wisconsin could send you some rotary big boy plows if their ███████ governor hasn't sold them all.

    1. Nice sentiment, but way too much work if the lights are out. I have a 1/2 gallon of Turkey Hill pomegranate lemonade in the fridge, way too much vodka, plus a big bottle of port for backup. Also too, a gallon of cider and some rum.

  1. Yup, the forecast just got seriously worse after the 1200 update.

Here's themaximum predicted snowfall amounts for the area:

In addition, there will be high winds, major coastal flooding ( 5' ), widespread long term power outages and freezing rain and sleet in southern VA and the Carolinas. All the fun of a springtime coastal Nor'easter in January with megatons frozen precip. There's a state of emergency for MD and VA from today through Monday and the MTA is expecting some roads to still be impassable though much of next week.

It's batten the hatches and hope for the best time. Good luck, everybody.

    1. Basically anyone in that area should be inside starting tomorrow afternoon for at least a couple of days. That's a ridiculous storm being forecast.

      1. Because this is a very strong El Nino year, the NWS modeling wizards predicted several "major precipitation events" (defined by snowfalls of 6" or greater) in late January through February. If this is just the first one, hang on everyone!

I'm going to try to file periodic reports for as long as I've got connectivity. If I go dark around Saturday night, don't be surprised.

          1. Oh, I've been pissed off about this way ahead of you and so are my Senators, who are raising quiet hell as we speak. Of course my worthless teabagging congressman is All In on teh drillin' even though his constituencies livelihoods would be totally devastated by any major spills.

Progress is Good you know, especially if it's progress that pisses "Liberals" off.

  2. To everyone in the path of this storm: May your power stay on and may your bottles of hooch magically replenish themselves.

    1. I'm hoping the infrastructure up here is adapted to snow, and we don't get hit too hard, but I am also charging every battery thing I own by tomorrow night.

  3. Second storm-related robocall from the county so far, this time it was the county exec hisself giving the "No, really!" speech.
