Later Tuesday, Curtis released a statement saying he regretted the conflict had escalated into a fight.

“I am incredibly disappointed in the actions that transpired in the last week. As lawmakers, we should hold ourselves to a higher level of professionalism than what has occurred,” he says in the statement. “I regret that the situation regressed to where the actions felt needed, but I do not regret protecting myself and holding strong to my ideals and the beliefs of my constituents.”
