  1. “Republicans and the conservatives are not these horrible people out there trying to oppress people,” Jenner said. “I don’t feel like they’re out to get us. Every conservative guy out there believes in everybody’s rights.”

This delusion would be funny if it weren't so tragic…

    /FFS

    1. I was just having a discussion on Jez yesterday that transwomen are like that person you know who always wanted to move to the city/state/country you were born in. They watched moves about it, read books about, when they finally move there, they have LOTS of THOUGHTS about what makes a REAL resident of your town, how you should dress, where you should go, how you should feel where you should eat. Meanwhile, you just shrug, be yourself, and don't worry if you're not wearing enough black or eating enough chili to qualify as a REAL Xer. And while you welcome the newcomer with open arms, you really wish she would shut the fuck up and think for second about what's coming out of her mouth. (Also, newly transitioned women really haven't adjusted to the reality that no one will automatically pay attention to them anymore like when they were a man. Sit down, ladies.)

      1. She'll never get interrupted or be invisible or talked over or dismissed the way most women are, and she's rich, so she will never have to struggle economically, so it would be nice if she'd recognize that she might want to filter before she speaks, but of course that won't happen.

Not to mention the fact that her political opinions are fucking stupid.

        1. Not recognizing her privilege is how you can tell she has it.

And, yes, the best part about her transition is going from thinking she was probably a self-absorbed idiot for marrying into that family (you know who) to KNOWING she is.

          1. Because why be merely an idiot when you and your entire family can also get paid to be idiots on national television.

      2. I generally avoid saying stuff like "real" when it comes to gender and particularly transgendered folks, because some do take offense to that. The forums on rpg.net actually had a lot of TS folks who were willing to talk about how things had changed for them and what they go through and etc. One woman, in a discussion about sexism, was able to shut down a lot of "oh it's in your head" arguments with her experience of being both a man and a woman. Another interesting point was about menstruation and how lacking it made her feel less like a woman.

It's also worth pointing out that most TS folks go through a transition so it's not like one day you're a woman, because gender isn't black and white like that.

So back to Jenner. I think it's more her privilege as a rich person coming through here. It allowed her to make her transition in relative peace and safety, something a lot of trans folks don't get. This also means she gets to keep a lot of her privilege as a man, so unlike the lady I referenced earlier, doesn't get to see the sharp contrast between the ways sexes are treated differently.

Also she may just be a clueless asshole

        1. That's a good part of it- she didn't go through her transition while pumping gas or working retail or stocking shelves at a grocery store. She didn't face the mountain of crap waiting for the bus or walking through the hood. she never had to wonder how she would pay for it and her immediate family was already so fucked up, dysfunctional and narcissistic that she never had to face that fallout either. All that money rather effectively isolated and insulated her from 99% of the shit anyone else in her position would have to deal with. Despite all that, her ability to overlook the judgmental homophobia of the GOP for the tax breaks is rivalled only by the log cabin republicans. Inclusive and tolerant my ass…

        2. That's why I did not use the word real about cisgender(ir transgender) people — if you read it, in my example, it was the new resident, aka, transwoman, who said it in my analogy. I am not unfamiliar and really don't need schooling on this issue, thanks.
