  1. That is some interesting mental gymnastics, right there: Trump is bad because he has a lot of money and does whatever he wants, but money guys that contribute to campaigns are great because they help steer the candidate in the right direction. Seems to me like somebody is butthurt for wasting a load of time on the sinking ship that was Jeb Bush.

  2. "Al Hoffman Jr. served as ambassador to Portugal in the George W. Bush Administration."

So a [political hack] real estate developer with no diplomatic credentials or experience, appointed to an ambassadorship as payback for his fundraising, wants to lecture us about integrity, hengh?

    Sure, that makes sense.

  3. While this will probably not endear me to many voters, I spent this election fundraising for former Florida governor Jeb Bush. I put up a considerable amount from my own wallet and raised several million more for his super PAC…

Political donors can, despite the stigma, do some admirable things. They help hire eager younger staffers who are passionate about politics. They pay for mailers that remind people to vote. Donors make it possible for candidates to hire intelligent scholars who work on policy and ideas, allowing campaigns to harness the best minds America has to offer.

Never mind the credibility gap for a moment (really? You fundraised for Jeb! and expect us to take you seriously?)–am I supposed to be impressed by the fact that political donations pay for the hate mail I get during election season? Or the "best minds" who, in your candidate's case, were the same people who supported W's rush to war in Iraq?

  4. Plato Plato Plato… We're turning to the guy who had a lifelong grudge against republics, whose work was held up by assorted despots for centuries as demonstrating that a republic would be even worse, for advice on running a republic?
