  3. The Cripps had sued their builder over structural issues with the home, but they did not know those issues were connected to landslides. Their lawsuit was settled out of court.

    Woah woah woah hey woah hey… They already got money from the developer, and now they want a federal bailout on top of that?

    1. I have no doubt that's what happened in my former home town of Pacifica, CA. Several apartment buildings were allowed to be built on a sandstone cliff overlooking the ocean, and predictably have been eaten by erosion. It took decades, and a succession of owners have made a lot of money taking rents. Now the city may get sued for allowing the development in the first place.
