The map in that "data-driven" article is bad. Because it [ chloropleths] toddler-involved shootings by state, it implies that this is a bigger problem in TX, GA, FL than elsewhere. That may well be true and certainly aligns with my assumptions about the authoritarian, gun-crazy South. But that map displays land area, not population. What should be mapped is toddler-hits/1000 or million of population, which might produce a very different result, and shouldn't be that hard for these so-called "wonk-bloggers" to gin up if they know how to use ArcGIS.
