When Pizarro arrived with about 130 men in armor, some horses, longbows and a small cannon (none of which any Inca or Tawantinsuyu people had ever seen before) his trained army of conquistadores cut through the defenders, who wore cotton "armor" and whose most lethal weapons were stone clubs, with almost comical ease.

    The Machu Picchu site is seismically active, and the Inca apparently determined by trial and error that non-rectangular masonry would resist the shaking more effectively, as indeed it has done.

  2. A friend from high school traveled to Machu Picchu in the summer of 1974. He went up with the last group of visitors but managed to hide and remain when they left. He dropped acid and wandered around all night, enjoyed seeing the fog lift at dawn and stumbled down later with the first group of visitors.
