  1. In torturing criminal suspects, sometimes to death, the CIA — and by extension the United States — unambiguously joined the ranks of the world’s most brutal regimes.

The documents reveal an incompetent bureaucracy that made detainees wear diapers simply to humiliate them and not only water-boarded captives who were already cooperating, but allowed them to die by accident in the cold.

I was going to buy the small bottle of rum at the liquor store, but they were out of those so I had to get a larger bottle. After reading this, I am glad about that fact FFS…

  2. We can torture terrorists to death, because that sort of violating constitutional rights is OK (as is keeping them locked up in GITMO with no charges or snooping on Americans' phone calls and emails), but we absolutely won't violate their constitutional right to buy an AR15

  3. *oukes*

Try and get this, John Yoo, Cheney and the others- in every country in the world, there are folks, who, if you open the door a crack, will take this game as far as they can. Have some fucking principles and _never_ stoop to this level. Ugh.

  4. The article is illustrated with photos of abuse conducted by hillbilly Army Reservists dumb enough to take such pictures, giving the unintentional impression that the Army was the prime purveyor of torture. Unfortunately the CIA agents and contractors were somewhat "smarter." It's regrettable that Barry didn't pursue this.

Some of the Army miscreants were punished. So far the CIA perps have gotten off scott-free.

  5. Fffffffffffuuuuuuuuuuu…

Threats were part of the treatment. “We’re going to kill your children,” was one popular line. “We could get your family in here,” was another. “If one child dies in America and I find out you knew something about it, I will personally cut your mother’s throat.”

Do we really have to wonder why ISIL is going after "soft targets" when we act no better? This might be a tad more visceral than "they hate us for our freedom."
